#less365

Every two weeks our home is clean and tidy for exactly 2 seconds – I’ve counted. That’s how long it takes us to enter our apartment and dump our bags, shoes, coats, school papers and mail the day the cleaners come by. TWO SECONDS! But a new year means a new slate and after the overconsumption that is known as Christmas I have the urge to purge – as I do every year. Last February I found out about a #less365 drive where you vow to ‘throw away’ at least one thing every day for a year and I joined the parade with a #less29 for the month of February (it was a leap year!). I successfully unloaded 29 unwanted objects from my home – by donating, selling or recycling and the odd tossing. This year I’m in it for the long haul and resolve to rid our household of 365 objects non grata and record it on twitter with the #less365 hashtag. 30 things are gone so far – one up on last year already!
I love things but I dream of minimalism. I want the flat surfaces in my home not to be a holding place for every piece of paper that comes in the door. We live in a small space and I like it. I don‘t want our stuff to stress me out so hand in hand with #less365 is a resolution to consume less. I don’t want to get too radical with this but getting rid of one thing every day and accounting for everything that comes in will be a goal for this year.
I’m going to exclude Eamon’s stuff for the most part – unless he’s outgrown it or agreed to pass it on. He’s been playing with his toys more this winter than I can ever remember – there’s Lego all over the table in his room, dinosaurs on the floor mixed in with knights and dragons and various accidents of cars in the living room. Well a couple of hours ago they were – every two weeks he has to make a clean sweep and put them back.
Follow me on twitter @delowe and see how I'm doing though I might update through the year.

We'd certainly need to join the club, our the house is getting too small...

This is such a great idea! (My Spring Break resolution is to read all the blogs from the past three months that I have neglected so sorry I am late).
